Hammamet is a cosmopolitan and extremely popular holiday resort in the Cap Bon region of Tunisia. Once a simple fishing village, until it was discovered by a Romanian Prince in the 1920's who designed a stunning Art Deco Villa, known as the Sebastian House. Thereafter, Prince Sebastian's guests - including Hemingway, Scott Fitzgerald, Paul Klee, Frank Lloyd Wright, King Edward and Wallis Simpson, Winston Churchill and King George VI came to rest and recuperate. Nowadays this beautiful house and gardens are open daily to the public, and in the months of July and August visitors flock to the outdoor amphitheatre for a variety of music and dance festivals in the walm balmy nights, with the heady scent of jasmine flowers in abundance.

Tunisia was the centre of Roman Africa, and indeed the influence of the Romans is still to be found in the wonderful Hammams (Roman Steam Rooms) - an incredible experience, you will emerge years younger! In the nearby town of Nabeul, the clay was used for Roman pottery, which is still made in the same fashion today. You can purchase the finest selection of hand-made plates, pasta dishes, jugs, vases and amazing pots at unbelievably cheap prices. In the souks and spice markets you can find the finest olives, spices, saffron and the famous Harissa - which will add fire to both your cooking and your love life! For the serious shoppers, there is a fantastic choice of jewellery (Berber and Tuareg), carpets (all types), and leather shops which will make anything you want in a few days!

Tunis the capital, is a bustling city, full of old cobbled streets alongside modern buildings. The remains of the historic city of Carthage are spread over a mountain, with wonderful views of the old Roman empire. The 2,000-year-old mosaics in the Bardo Museum, (which is also the old Bey Palace) are well worth a visit, and provide a real insight into the fascinating Roman civilisation. We have discovered an exquisite Arabian Nights' Restaurant in the heart of Tunis, where VIPs and celebrities dine on a regular basis - the quality of the food, the decor and service (not to mention the gorgeously chic and handsome waiters) has to be worth a visit!

Sufficiently fed and rested, you should now be ready to experience shopping in the old Medina in Tunis. Endless winding passageways with hundreds of shopkeepers selling their wares, plus bridal sections, hat sections, gold sections, little cafes, the smell of chicha pipes everywhere, fascinating old doors leading where? - you would think you were in a film set, or transported back into another time and age. This is truly a feast for your eyes and your senses!
